Why Women Should Train Jiu Jitsu (That Aren’t For Self Defense)
The number-one reason women are usually given for why they should train jiu jitsu is “because it teaches you how to protect yourself.”
There’s a good reason for it: jiu jitsu is designed for weaker, smaller opponents to dominate larger ones using technique rather than strength. Being as a woman in the United States is assaulted or beaten every nine seconds and has a 1 in 5 chance of being raped in her lifetime, it would make sense that jiu jitsu would be a recommended form of self defense for a group of people that is (usually) smaller and weaker than the people most likely to assault them.
As someone who started jiu jitsu after nearly being sexually assaulted by a taxi driver about four years ago (and has since used it to get myself out of another sketchy situation), I’m a huge, huge proponent of anyone learning BJJ to protect themselves.
That said, jiu jitsu has so much more to offer than just self defense. You’ll get in shape, develop lifelong friendships, and have a lot of fun – and that’s only the beginning! If you know a woman or are a woman who’s been thinking about stepping onto the mats, there are plenty of reasons to do it that don’t involve choking out would-be rapists.

Reasons To Get Your Kids To Train BJJ During The Summer in Utah:
Reasons To Get Your
Kids To Train BJJ During The Summer
First bjj center - Carlson Gracie team Utah
Salt Lake city
They won’t be glued to the TV
It’s sad to say, but many
kids are excited for summer because they’re excited to watch TV or play video
games all day. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Enrolling them in kids BJJ
classes can keep them off the couch and away from technology, even if it only
is for a few hours a week. Instead of sitting still, they’ll be getting
healthy.
You don’t have to worry about keeping them busy on rainy days
As if it weren’t hard enough keeping your kids entertained during
the summer, the weather has to make things more difficult. When the rain hits
and the kids start to go stir crazy, taking them to BJJ training is a great way
to keep them busy. They can let out all of their energy on the mats while they
learn something useful.
It will help you stay sane
For your sanity’s sake, you should take your kids to BJJ classes
in the summer. You can only go to the public pool, the air conditioned mall,
and the expensive zoo so many times a month. And all of that activity gets
exhausting.
Drop your kids off at BJJ and give yourself a break. For a few
hours a week, you can relax and unwind without a child tugging at your leg
asking, “What now?”
They can practice, practice, practice!
There are a lot of techniques to learn in BJJ, and the only way to
master them is to practice. During the school year, it can be hard for kids to
find time to go to class or to train at home. But during the summer, there’s
nothing but time! Kids can learn and practice the techniques without worrying
about homework or after-school activities.
It will instill self-confidence before school starts up
Whether your child is attending a new school or just is low on
self-esteem, BJJ gives kids confidence. It teaches them to hold their heads up
high and be proud of who they are. When they go back to school in the fall, it
will be with much more confidence than the year before.
BJJ is great for everyone. But it’s especially great for kids.
Don’t miss the opportunity to give your kids BJJ lessons this summer.
It will keep their brains working
Let’s be honest. Some kids just turn their brains off when school
lets out. They throw their notes in the trash and save all of their summer
reading for the week before school starts back up. Getting them to practice
math or writing during the summer can be almost impossible.
Fortunately, BJJ gets kids thinking again. It involves analyzing
and critical thinking. Without knowing it, your kids will be using their brains
again.
It can help them stay healthy
Being home all day during
the summer means access to junk food all day long. For some kids, it also means
almost no exercise. Fortunately, you can help your kids stay healthy by
enrolling them in BJJ classes. Training can get them into shape quickly, and
they may even pick up some healthy eating habits. The workout kids get in class
is great for the fitness and it makes them more likely to make healthy
decisions when they get older.
